Comprehensive work readiness curriculum for young people

The Challenge

Work matters.

Research shows that young people who work part time during high school experience positive long-term outcomes, including higher earnings, higher levels of educational attainment, access to higher-level jobs, and employer-provided benefits such as healthcare and retirement plans, yet teen employment rates continue to decline, with employers citing a lack of work-readiness skills as a key barrier.

The Solution

Designed in 2012 by Commonwealth Corporation, Signal Success is a comprehensive work readiness training curriculum designed to help youth and young adults develop essential skills for future success. Learners receive systematic instruction in core soft skills while engaging in meaningful future planning. 

Our work readiness training program equips youth and young adults ages 14–25 with the essential, most in-demand workforce skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in today’s workplace and achieve real-world success. In Responsive to what today’s employers are looking for. 

Through interactive virtual and in-person learning, Signal Success guides participants on a journey of self-exploration while building essential work-readiness skills that prepare them for employment, internships, and long-term career pathways.

To date, in partnership with MassHire Workforce Boards and their partners throughout the Commonwealth, thousands of youth and young adults have participated in Signal Success and learned to:
