Commonwealth Corporation Is in the Skills Building Business

About Us

Commonwealth Corporation is Massachusetts’ quasi-public workforce development agency. We partner with state agencies, employers, education and training providers, and community-based organizations to strengthen the Commonwealth’s workforce and enhance economic competitiveness.

Each year, we invest in and manage training programs that help thousands of youth and adults build the skills they need for high-demand careers. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of both workers and employers—connecting people to meaningful employment while helping businesses find and grow the talent they need to succeed.

Our investments reach every corner of the Commonwealth—from the Cape to the Berkshires—and are designed to maximize the impact of public and private dollars.

Our Mission

Commonwealth Corporation powers the Commonwealth’s competitiveness by expanding access to skill building programs that meet the needs of both workers and businesses across Massachusetts.

Our Vision

A world where meaningful employment can lead to upward mobility for all.

Our Values

Balance

We value the mental and physical health of our employees. We also respect that our employees are “humans first,” with unique personal circumstances and obligations outside of work. We seek to support our employees in balancing these commitments while achieving professional success.

Collaboration

We seek to strengthen the workforce system and drive meaningful impact in individuals’ lives by working closely with our grantees, partners, and communities across Massachusetts. In our collaborations, we proactively seek feedback from a variety of perspectives as we respond to the needs of those we serve. We apply the same principles inside of our organization.

Development and Innovation

We strive to invest in our people and foster a culture of growth. Approaching challenges with curiosity and creativity, we work to create an environment that encourages improvement through strategic innovation. We actively pursue learning opportunities to enhance our personal and professional lives.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

We center equity in everything we do. We are dedicated to making informed decisions that promote fairness, access, and advancement for all. We elevate the needs of communities that are historically excluded from access to resources and power. We commit to making our workplace inclusive and psychologically safe, and we empower individuals to show up to work as their authentic selves.

Integrity

We hold ourselves accountable to the highest ethical standards. Transparency, trust, and honesty are core to our work. We take ownership of our successes and failures, with intent to learn from both.

Kindness and Respect

We forge human connections with kindness, empathy, and compassion. By showing respect to ourselves and our colleagues, grantees, and partners, we aim to create a culture where everyone feels seen and appreciated. We commit to communicating with courtesy and consideration, especially when managing disagreement and conflict.
